From Chicago Breaking News:

Police have questioned and released an 80-year-old retired Army veteran who they said shot and killed an armed man who was breaking into the elderly man's East Garfield Park home this morning.

The homeowner, his 83-year-old wife and their 12-year-old great-grandson were sleeping in the first-floor apartment of his two-flat in the 600 block of North Sawyer when he was awakened by the sound of breaking glass about 5:20 a.m., police said.

Another perfect example of why you should keep a weapon around you, at all times, in your house. You never know when you might need it.

God Bless the 80 year old Army veteran.

Burn in Hell offender.

The Castle Doctrine states a persons home is their "castle," and that they do not have a legal obligation to "retreat" when they believe they are in imminent danger(ie confronting a burglar). It varies from state. This is a perfect example of the Castle Doctrine at work. Note that CeaseFire, a group which exists in Chicago, opposed expanding the Castle Doctrine in PA to include the threat of harm on ones patio, porch or deck. The NRA was on the side of such expansion.

There was a comment in second city cop that the gun owner was actually charged with failure to register his firearm. Im not sure if that is true or not or whether it was a hand gun or rifle. As it stands now private citizens (non police) are only allowed to own rifles in the City of Chicago, with, of course, a valid FOID card. The Supreme Court is or has ruled on McDonald v City of Chicago which challenges the ban on private handgun ownership. A similar ban in DC was struck down in 2008 with Heller v DC.

In case you were looking to impress some lawyers or lib-tards at your next cocktail party here is the actual Illinois State Law regarding the Castle Doctrine and using deadly force to defend your property:

(720 ILCS 5/7‑2) (from Ch. 38, par. 7‑2)
Sec. 7‑2. Use of force in defense of dwelling.
(a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that he reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to prevent or terminate such other's unlawful entry into or attack upon a dwelling. However, he is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if:
(1) The entry is made or attempted in a violent,
riotous, or tumultuous manner, and he reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent an assault upon, or offer of personal violence to, him or another then in the dwelling, or

(2) He reasonably believes that such force is
necessary to prevent the commission of a felony in the dwelling.

(b) In no case shall any act involving the use of force justified under this Section give rise to any claim or liability brought by or on behalf of any person acting within the definition of "aggressor" set forth in Section 7‑4 of this Article, or the estate, spouse, or other family member of such a person, against the person or estate of the person using such justified force, unless the use of force involves willful or wanton misconduct.

It seems like the last few burglaries and attempted home invasions around MTG have been done by lucky guys. How do you go into MTG and pick the ONE house on the block that isn't owned by a cop or a pissed off, heavily armed fire fighter?

Please...Crawl through my window while one of us is home. I'll make sure you don't feel a thing, Ray Ray.

Oh, by the way, there's a certain shaved-head 3-year-wonder on 2211 that needs to shut his mouth. I've heard of a few different instances where he's calling kids in the neighborhood "Mt. Greenwood Hillbillies" while he's yelling at them about smoking or drinking. Get over yourself muscles, you drive around with that shit eating grin and your co-workers laugh at you and call you a tool.

The last comment from someone that’s clearly a 22 PO, is very disturbing to me! The one that is calling their fellow PO a 3-year-wonder & using other insults. I know exactly who you are talking about and it's rather disheartening.
I'm a citizen in MTG, not a PO, but am married to one that has almost 2 decades otj. From what I hear, 22 has a large number of immature, catty, bitchy, high-school gossip queens! I'm not saying all PO's at 22 are like this, but there are an alarming number of them.
I do agree that it seems there might be some PO's with their own agendas, and perhaps might not cover a beat because of their feelings towards the residents of that beat, but why complain here and why act like a bunch of high school girls that sit around talking shit about each other? This just drives a wedge between the PO's in your district. You guys are supposed to have each other’s backs!
What I have to say to some of the P.O.'s in 22, you know who you are, grow up, learn to tolerate each other, and most importantly, GET OVER IT already! I don't care what you guys call us, just protect us. I think there are hillbillies here for sure, but I don't think they deserve to be robbed or have less police protection either!
Because of Dailey, Weis, our Alderman and your supervisors…CPD is a thankless job. Learn to accept that, it's what you signed up for. Name calling is incredibly immature.
To the person that made the comment, why do you have a problem with him? Does he not patrol his beat he's assigned to, or are you just jealous that he has only 3 years on the job and gets decent assignments? And how do you know that those kids aren't being a nuisance while out drinking and smoking? If this is stopping that PO from patrolling 2211, then that should be taken up with supervisors, rather than complaining about it anonymously on a public forum which does none of us any good.
You are a complete hypocrite, using the term Ray-Ray in one paragraph, and then turning around in the next paragraph and chastising a FELLOW OFFICER for using the term "hillbilly". That 'muscle head with the shit eating grin' just MIGHT be the guy that saves your life one day, have all of the 22 PO's forgotten what camaraderie means? How can we as citizens feel safe, when 22 PO's (like my spouse) don't feel safe? I've been told that they KNOW that when it comes to backup, there's no confidence that their fellow P.O. will even show up, let alone put themselves in harm’s way to save one another.
What you don't realize is that one of your greatest assets as a PO is the protection offered by your fellow PO's. If there was any kind of camaraderie in 22, maybe you could appeal to one another to stay on your beats regardless of boredom or hillbilly prejudices. The PO's in other districts are fiercely protective of one another, why is 22 so different? If our PO's in 22 could learn to just get along and be cordial with one another, I think we as citizens would see a difference.
The person that posted that comment, you hate the people you have to police, and you hate the people you police with?! Really?? Thumbs up, buddy! You must be a pleasure to be around and I'm sure glad you are charged with the duty to protect our community.

To those of you P.O.'s at 22 that are doing your jobs, you guys know who you are, some of you came from places like Englewood, West side, etc...Kudos guys, you are doing a great job. I had to call 911 a few weeks ago on a suspicious person on my doorstep, before I hung up the phone 2255 and another car were there immediately. Thank you! I know who the worthy ones are at 22, and you know who you are too. I've seen you over here on our beat when you are assigned, and I thank you for that. I only wish that some of you would rub off on your younger fellow PO's at 22 that wouldn't so much as piss on you if you were on fire. I don't know about MTG, but I sure feel safe knowing that our P.O.'s at 22 absolutely hate each other!? WTF!?

A little off subject, I’ve heard of a female 22nd Dst PO that’s known to call MTG citizens hillbillies, and also is openly opinionated about her fellow PO's. I've been hearing that rumor for a while. Not long ago, she was dispatched to Homan Ave. for a complaint about illegally parked cars (multiple cars). I personally watched her out my window write a ticket for one car after a neighbor of mine called to complain about multiple cars parked illegally for Bourbon Street. This PO was working 99, looked at one car, wrote a ticket, took off quickly without looking at any other cars. Her demeanor showed me she really could care less about what she was doing and where she was doing it. Just doing the bare minimum. She made it obvious to me that night how she feels about us in 2211. After she left, there were still 2 cars out there that were parked illegally. I know it seems minor and there are other bigger things she could’ve been doing to keep us safe, but still, she proved the “rumors” I heard about how she feels about us here in MTG. Differences aside, who deserves protection more the tax-paying law-abiding citizens of 2211 or places like Church St. or Pig City? Hmmmmmm
